Summary : “An Angel has the power to pacify a crowd, to convey emotions people ignore. But…when an Angel sings for his master, this man can feel the fullness of body and mind…however, one Angel is made for a Master and only one. And the master can’t choose his Angel.” But when Ninomiya Kazunari, an Angel fated to belong to the ruler of the galaxy chooses the Commandant of the ship designated to guide him to his Master, what will happen to him?
Note: The concept of singing Angel belongs to O.S Card, I borrow it with all the respect due to his huge talent.

CHAPTER 13

Nino opened his eyes, hearing an anxious voice by his side. His name repeated again and again penetrated slowly the blur of his mind.

“Satoshi?” Moaned the Angel.
“I thought you’d never wake up, I was so afraid!” Answered Ken’s voice close to him as the Angel felt his arms hugging him.
“Ken, what did you do to me?” He mumbled painfully.
“I hit you a bit, excuse me, I didn’t have the choice. It was the fastest and surest way to exfiltrate you.”
“Where are we?”
“Into a ship I borrowed.”
“You stole a ship?”
Yelled Satoshi.
“BORROWED, not stole, I’ll bring it back one day…except if I still need it or if I forget to do it. Anyway, there are plenty of star ships on Kanda. One more, one less…it doesn’t really matter.”

Nino sat painfully and the servant moved back, his eyes full of guiltiness.

“How are you? Your head?”
“I’m dizzy and I have a big bump, but it’s all right. I guess.”
“Good. We’ll land soon, and out there they will take care of you.”
“Ken…why?”
“I’ll give you explanation once we’ll be there, right? Trust me.”
Said Ken pecking Nino’s cheek.
“And what am I doing here?!”Asked Ohno who sounded totally angry.

Nino stared at him, surprised. He never imagined his brother, or any resident of the Orchid Palace losing his calm, but he was mad with Ken. The Angel figured out his brother was a man now, a man with aspirations and a life he ignored, a man he didn’t know.

“You’re a collateral damage, Ohno-san. Excuse me, I didn’t have any other solution.”

Satoshi arched his eyebrows, a sudden expression of I-can’t-believe-it adorning his entire face.

“Look, if my fingers are cut because of you, I’ll find you and make you swallow them to choke you with!”
“You’re so sexy when you’re angry…”
Smiled Ken maliciously.
“Satoshi-nii, leave him alone.”
“But I…I don’t think you fully understand what he did. Because of him, we’re outlaws. We’ll be punished because of him.”
“Punished? How?”
Whispered Nino.
“You won’t to know, believe me.” Answered Ken “Oh! Here we are!”

Satoshi rushed to the window and gasped.

“Are you kidding us?”
“This is the best –the only- thing to do, okay? You can’t fully get why, but…”
“Ken-san, we’re ready to land.”
Cut a man Nino recognized as the one who kidnapped him early.

Nino grabbed Ken’s arm and couldn’t keep a smile when he saw the scenery.
The door of the ship slide opened and Nino didn’t wonder why he was there or even why Ken knew them. He was too happy to be out of the Palace and the crystal-clear sensation to be finally home warmed his heart pleasantly.

“They won’t open the door for you.” Hissed Ohno angrily.
“How much you bet?”
“I don’t bet with a thief.”
“You know you’d lose, that’s why.”
Sighed Ken climbing down.

Ohno was ready to follow him to protest but Nino held his hand like he used to do years ago.

“Aren’t you happy to be here?”
“I’m only wondering why he throws us into the lion’s mouth.”
“He asked me to have faith one day, I want to trust him.

Nino intertwined their fingers and dragged him outside.
Ken was already knocking at a little door of their first house, the glorious Orchid Palace. A guard opened cautiously and surprisingly, let him enter. The painter and the Angel passed the threshold at their turn, a wave of nostalgia overwhelming them as they spotted the little faces of the children in the stairs above.

“Kazunari-kun and Satoshi-kun?! But what are you doing here, my children?”
“Usui-sensei?”

Nino ran to his old mentor’s arm and the heart of this latter flinched when he noticed his thinness and his little face.

“Excuse me, Usui-sensei, I didn’t know where I should go.” Apologized Ken, bowing respectfully.
“Ken-kun, well, well, what a surprise! Are you searching for someone?”
“You know I won’t embarrass you if I could do differently.”

The old man raised his gaze on the children.

“Come to my study, we’ll talk about it. And you’ll explain to me how by chance one of my Angels and one of my painters are under my roof again.”

Ken lowered his gaze and did what he was told.
Nino waved at the children and joined the three others. He had thought that Usui-sensei could be angry or worried by the intrusion but he was as quiet as always. He even sound to be happy. The old teacher smiled wide and took place on his armchair and the three guests sat on the fluffy carpet on the floor.

“Ano…” began Satoshi.
“Satoshi-kun?”
“You know each other?”
“Ken-kun is an old friend indeed. You know, I have a lot of friends.”
“But I thought no one could enter the Orchid Palace except the professors and the children.”
“Some precious friends are allowed to visit us, sometimes.”
“Like Aiba-chan?”
Asked Nino struck by a lightning “Ken are you a Yamabushi too?”
“No, no, I’m only an apprentice.”
“Don’t be so humble, Ken-kun.”
Cut the old Intendant. “He’s very promising, even if he can be stubborn sometimes.”
“Excuse me Sensei, but I had to do quick, she wanted to kill him.”
“She?”
“Lady Aoi. She hired mercenaries to strangle him during his sleep like she did when he was here and I’m not as strong as Aiba-san to kill them all alone.”
“And Satoshi-kun?”
“She would have killed him after Nino’s disappearance, I saw it.”

Ohno lowered his head to hide his embarrassment. He has been harsh with his saviour.

“I’m not a very good apprentice to be true. I still have some bad habits I can’t get rid of.”
“Like stealing?”
Said Nino in an undertone.
“Amongst other things, right…but, Usui-sensei?”

He stared at the Intendant to ask him a silent question. This latter nodded slowly and Ken faced the Angel and the Painter to look at them straightforwardly.

“I’m telepath.”
“You read people’s mind?”
asked Ohno.
“Not only. I can…enter inside people’s head and change their perception of reality. But I never did with both of you, I swear.”
“Can you show us?”
Said Nino enthusiastically and Ohno nodded.
“Are you sure?”
“I do.”
“Usui-sensei, may I?”
“I guess it’s the fastest way to explain our situation.”
“Okay. Just close your eyes and empty your minds, it will ease my task.”

They did what they were told and Ken grabbed their hands as he closed his eyes too. They saw the image of a boy laid on the ground, covered by blood, kids throwing him big rocks, screaming “monster” to him.

“Too far, sorry.”

They opened their eyelids and smiled to Ken with compassion.

“You’re skilled to empty your minds…okay, let’s go back.”

Once again they focused and this time, Ken was carrying bags bigger than him.

“Aiba-san, how many time have I to work at the kitchen?”
“You learn to know the Imperial palace, it’s part of your mission. Keep your eyes open and don’t forget anything. Tomorrow, you will go at Lady Kei’s place.”
“The owner of the brothel?”
“Exactly, she’s a friend of mine and I bet he will return to his old demons very very soon.”
“Yes, Master.”

Okada suddenly appeared on a big red bed, with a look that Nino knew too well. But this time, it was for Ken.
The young man walked to him sensually, taking off his clothes, tossing it on the floor and he put his fingers to the General’s temples as he was straddling him. The man smiled idiotically and fell on the bed. Ken flinched for a second as if he had lost his strengths then leaped on his feet when someone entered the bedroom.

“So?” whispered Aiba.
“It’s done Master, he’s making wet dreams…it will be as real as possible in his mind.”
“Did you suggest him to entrust you Nino?”
“I did, Master.”
“Perfect. So you’ll lay by his side. But first, let’s undress him.”

The image blurred again and they saw Ken fooling the guards to go out of Nino’s bedroom easily and again and again Okada taking off for the land of dreams under Ken’s skilled fingers.
More than once, Aiba’s image appeared, each time unclearly to keep for him what he didn’t want to reveal but they heard “Find Usui-sensei if you want to contact me.”

“I forgot on purpose the recruitment of the men who helped me to kidnap you, they are plain morons of the Palace. The more idiotic they are, the more it’s easy for me.”
“So Aiba-san and you?”
Asked Ohno.
“I’m his apprentice.”
“And I’m not sure of my choice now…”
Threw the Yamabushi at the study’s door.
“Aiba-chan!” Nino leaped on his feet and hugged him joyfully. “I’m so happy to see you!”
“I am too, my Angel, I missed you. Thank you Sensei for opening your door to these outlaws.”
“I couldn’t turn a deaf ear to them and it sounds that the wind of the rebellion is blowing, isn’t it, Aiba-sensei?”
“I think so.”
Answered the monk with a grin.
“I could die happy.”
“Don’t talk about this, Usui-sensei!”
Said gently the monk.
“My time has come since decades and we worked well. As soon as Nino and Ohno will be safe, my work will be achieved.”
“There’s a lot to come, Sensei but we won’t stay here, it will be the first place to search for Nino and if he finds him here…”
“The Palace is not so fragile, you know, but you’re right. Protect him once again, it will be my last request.”

Aiba kneeled at the Master’s feet and when he rose he glared at his apprentice.

“You don’t ease my task, you know, Ken?”
“I know, Master and I’m sorry. I had to improvise.”
“…I don’t complain, since it was your mission. Satoshi-kun, I’m sorry to drag you into this story. I’m afraid you have to accompany us.”
“Where are we going?”
“Into a safe place.”

They didn’t argue and went back to the ship stolen by Ken. After several hours, the apprentice went back to the two passengers, letting his master piloting.
He crouched by Nino’s side who was sleeping on Satoshi’s shoulder, their hands still linked.

“He can sleep everywhere, ne?”
“He was already like this when he was a child. He talked and the next second, in the middle of a sentence, I figured out he fell asleep.”
Murmured Ohno, covering him with a blanket.
“It looks like him.” Said the apprentice with a lovely smile.
“You really like him?”
“Who could dislike him, he’s so…unique. But above all I’m happy to see him smiling. Since he’s far from his Master his heart is dying.”
“His master?”

Ken stared at him, baffled, then realized he didn’t really know Sakurai. He sat by his side and told him the Baron Sakurai and all the love Nino had for him and the difficulty to stay far from him.

“Okada will search for him everywhere. He will be furious. What will he do if he finds him?”
“Don’t think about it. If Nino has had to stay with him, he would have died anyway.”
Conclude Ken.
“So…you did well. I guess.” Mumbled Ohno.
“Are you praising me?”

Ken smirked.

“I’m sorry for being so harsh with you early. You probably hate me.”

The apprentice didn’t answer but put his hand on the painter’s face after a quick “May I?” . Through the apprentice eyes, he saw their first encounter when he was painting in the great hall. He felt Ken’s belly twisted by a strong desire and a warm wave ran through his body. He felt the wet hand of the man in Nino’s and a mad envy to penetrate his mind to whisper him sweet words. Ohno moved back, breaking the contact, the images too clear and clearly embarrassing.

“I…I think I understood.” Ohno leaned back against the wall, trying to keep a respectful distance with the cute monk.
“Are you embarrassed? You’re so red!”
“I’m not used to feel this kind of thing.”

Ken put back his hands on Ohno’s temples and closing his ears to his protestations, kissed him. A concert of sensation exploded into his head and his body. The discovery of his own pleasure mixed to the apprentice’s, his so inexperienced pleasure fed by the other’s desire. He wanted to learn more, to feel him more and Ken’s hands began to explore his skin, finally breaking the link and letting be the only master of his own sensations.
This time, Ken moved back.

“I…I…This time, I’m the one to be too enthusiastic. Sorry.”

Ken went back to the cockpit and Ohno grinned, totally decided to feel again those brand new emotions.

The next day, Aiba landed on a new planet.

“We will rest on Onarimon for a moment, the order has a house here. It will give us the time to observe Okada’s reaction.”
“Yes, Master.”
Answered Ken with humility.

Into the Yamabushi shrine, Nino and Ohno were struck by the solemnity of the place. They were used to remain silent of course, but here, a mystic atmosphere reigned on the place, appeasing each person passing his majestic threshold.
Ken guided them to the guest’s rooms and when he came back for the meal, he was wearing the red and grey outfit of the apprentices. His attitude was so different that Nino barely recognized him. Suddenly he had the same elegancy than Aiba, an aura of strength imposing the respect.
The two former residents of the Orchid palace weren’t allowed to speak to the monks and their rooms were separated from the rest of the shrine. They could only eat with them and if they could see their friends, they couldn’t exchange more than smiles.
The few days they spent in the shrine were bittersweet. The place was perfect for reflexion and calm but they couldn’t put aside the fact that for the very first time of their life they were out of the path they followed since their childhood. They didn’t practice their art for someone else’s sake, they were themselves and this sudden freedom was confusing.
Ohno asked for canvas and the monks offered him papers and pastels he never ever tried before.
He drew from dawn to night, sleeping only during few hours to go back to his work when he woke up. Nino stood by his side, talking sometimes, crooning always to not disturb the peace of the monks. Everything would have been perfect if he didn’t think so much to his lover.
Aiba didn’t talk about the Commandant and Nino feared for his security. But he didn’t want to bother Aiba or Ken with inappropriate questions. Usui-sensei said he was part of a rebellion against the General Okada…his own feelings weren’t important after all. But if they fought Okada, would they fight Sho too? Those questions haunted him and he heard the news of their departure with relief.

“I was in mission for the Great Master of the Order, Nagase-san, Nino. Sorry if I couldn’t talk to you.” Said the Yamabushi taking place with him into the cockpit.
“I was a bit worried.”
“I know, my Angel, but I didn’t have any answer to give and I didn’t want to scary you. I know that all those changes were difficult to live.”
“No! I’m happy to be with the three of you. I thought I would never see you, or Satoshi. When Ken told me he was your apprentice, I was relieved.”
“Relieved?”
“I was afraid that Okada could hurt him because of me.”
“He never laid a hand on him, Nino. It was only an illusion created to fool Okada.”
“He showed me.”
“I know you’re worried for Sakurai, but you didn’t ask because you fear a bad news?”
“I don’t want to bother you.”

Aiba laughed and the pretty wrinkles at the corner of his eyes appeared.

“He’s fine. Very fine. But he missed you badly.”
“True?!”
“True and now, go with Ken and Ohno. I had the feeling we can’t leave them alone too long or Ken will refuse to go back in mission.”

Nino stood up and his friends were speaking in an undertone, their foreheads against each other’s. Aiba was right, even if it was already too late. Seeing Nino entering, they moved back suspiciously.

“Aiba asked me to go with you.”

If he had known how to lie, he would have said he was here by chance, but he was bother enough to disturb them as they were obviously ready to kiss.

“I guess, yeah…”said Ken, confused. “We’re not doing something wrong, Nino.”
“I know, you simply want to be with him, that’s all.”
“That’s all, yes.”
“I know this feeling.”

Ken stroked Nino’s cheek and hugged him. Yes, he knew better than anyone how precious were the moments you shared with the one you loved. Satoshi smirked and leaned on the wall to rest. They still ignored their destination and they simply had to go with the flow for the moment.
They barely talked on the road leading them to their next adventure. Satoshi wasn’t talkative by nature, like Nino, Aiba was focused on his task and the next one, probably and Ken imitated his companions. The ship entered an atmosphere full of strange noises, surprising the Angel. Groans, bangs, bird’s singings he never heard and finally a deafening sound as they landed into a natural crater.
Aiba jumped out of the ship and asked to his passengers to follow.

“We’re on Nerima.” He explained to Nino and Ohno “This is the rebellion’s base and you’ll be safe here…Nagase-san!”

The Great Master of the order greeted his co-religionist and invited him and his apprentice to do their report. A woman guided Ohno and Nino to the quarters were they ate and showered.
When Aiba came back to them to show them around, he was worried and Nino grabbed his arm.

“Aiba-chan?”
“Don’t worry Nino. One of my friends is in danger right now, but I trust her.”
“So why are you worried?”
“It’s stronger than me, she’s like my daughter…”
murmured the monk.

Ken caught them, excited to tell that “she” was there. Aiba ran to the landing area and after a second, the two artists ran after him.
A ship was landing and Nagase was already waiting, Aiba by his side.
The door slide opened and when Nino realized that it was the members of the crew he flew with, his heart jumped into his chest.
He spotted the pilot girl, running to Aiba with a scream of happiness. His look went back instinctively to the ship, his heart already guessing what his eyes couldn’t see. Then he was here, close to him and Nino walked to him without thinking further. He was here for him, he was convinced and nothing else mattered. Sho was tired and anxious, but a new determination burnt into his gaze. Nino wanted to comfort him and tell him he was here for him too, that everything will be fine from now since they were reunited.
He approached him and saw his gaze full of surprise, full of happiness then overwhelmed by sadness. The Angel held him thigh, to be sure that no one could pull them apart, unable to understand the lack of reaction of Sho. He looked at him straightforwardly, fathoming his soul, seeing only a huge confusion.

“Are you for real?” Mumbled Sho.

Nino closed his eyes to erase this doubt, so out of place between them and as he tried to link their lips, Sho pushed him gently. The Angel opened his eyes, his heart broken as he saw Sho clenching his jaws. But once again, he closed his eyelids resolutely and put his lips on Sho’s, a wave of pleasure running through his body as finally he felt the pulpous mouth parting to kiss him fiercely as if their lives depended on it.
