Summary : Sho Sakurai and Jun Matsumoto live together since seven years and their life sounds to be perfectly organized…too well-organized according Sho’s opinion. When Sho’s Boss hires a new trainee and entrusts him, it’s a real Earthquake for the journalist…
PART III
When Sho passed the threshold, the house was quiet but the open windows showed that the dweller was there. He placed his bag on the closest armchair and after taking off his cap, looked for Jun. He was in his study, elbow resting on his architect table, his glasses on the tip of his nose and a pen between his lips.
“Tadaima”
“Oh! Okaeri! You should have called me, I would have come to the station.”
“I took a cab, I didn’t want to bother you. And I didn’t know if you were home.”
Jun stood up and walked to him to take him in his arms.
“How was it?”
“It was great! Exhausting but great.”
He didn’t have to pretend that he was exhausted due to the eventful trip. He was not sure what he needed to tell Jun, but he knew that his affair with Nino was something that he had to keep it for himself. It was something that marked his weakness, his lack of personal resolve where Nino was concerned. It was something that he had to live with, the fact that he slept with Nino, the fact that he was unable to resist someone as attractive as Nino, it will be all engraved in his mind; he will shove it to the darkest part of his mind and move on.
He stepped back clumsily.
“I’m going to take a bath…and unpack.”
“Okay, I’ll finish that and I’ll come.”
“No problem.”
“By the way, Sho!”
“Hm?”
“I invited Chiro and Taku for dinner.”
Sho looked back at him, an astonished expression on his face. He should be used to it already, but sometimes, he wondered as to why he was even surprised.
“Jun, I’m tired…I just need some quiet time.”
“But we haven’t met for ages and it was their only free day. I took care of everything, don’t worry.”
Sho exited the study with a sag on his shoulders, knowing well that Jun would not change his mind, since he was already working on his blueprints again.
He took a hot bath and thought about the past couple of days. The enchanted moment was over now and he was back to his reality.
At 8, Chiro and Taku rang at the door, a bottle of wine in a pretty bag, smiling like always. When Sho was a trainee at Beck, during his last year of university, he was friends with Taku. It was thanks to Chiro that Sho met Jun, after being introduced to him.
Truth be told, Jun and himself did not have many common friends, only those two. This was their semi-monthly dinner, which has become rare with time, considering their busy schedules. Sho didn’t mind hosting them, in fact, he was happy to do so, however, it was something that he wished Jun would warn him before they actually did.
While he was in the bath, it kind of hit him like cold water, that he was feeling relieved to not spend alone time with Jun. It had given him a jolt of uncertainty. During the dinner, they laughed and ate the delicious meal cooked by Jun; talking about the old times. The couple announced that they were going to have a baby soon. Sho saw Jun’s expression light up, mentioning how he also hoped that, that, was hopefully their next step for them. Sho talked about his job at the journal section, the last concerts he attended to and Taku roared jealously.
“Tell me!”
“The place was wonderful, too unreal to see those rock bands playing there! Gossip, Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Elvis Costello…”
“You saw Elvis Costello?!”
“Yeah, in the middle of a forest, by night, an unplugged…”
“Lucky you.”
“Who’s Elvis Costello?” asked Jun.
“A rock legend, Sho never talked about him? He’s his God!”
“He doesn’t really care, I don’t want to annoy him. He doesn’t drag me to his high archi-tectural places, I don’t force him to listen music he doesn’t like.”
“It’s the happiness recipe!” whispered Chiro to Taku.
“Certainly.” Smiled Sho, looking at their friends who didn’t do anything alone despite their overbooked schedule.
It was fun for Sho to think about that time, to see him through his friend’s eyes, clumsy, unsure about his sexuality and totally panicked because he had to tell his parents that he was with a man. If he hadn’t been so in love with Sho, he surely kept the secret.
When Jun entered the bedroom, Sho was already in bed, ready to sleep. But he climbed on the bed and straddled Sho. He was holding a little package.
“Look at what I found in your jeans when I put it in the washing machine.”
“They put condoms in your pockets in festival, you know it.”
The lie has been so natural that for the first time, he feared that he would discover eve-rything, how hurt he would be. But seeing Jun’s excited look, he smiled at him.
“Since how many years, have we not used condoms?” murmured Jun, leaning on him.
“Most of the couples can’t wait to get rid of it and you’re excited by it?”
“I thought that with this sweet dinner, talking about the good old times, it was a sign…here!”
He handed it to Sho and undressed, then laid on his back. Sho wondered what he wanted from him…that he undresses to, like always. That he prepares him, that he takes him? Why did he think about? Why did he have to think about? Why was it so unnatural?
He opened the package and took off the condom and as Jun was parting his thighs, un-wrapped it on his semi-erected sex.
“What are you doing?” he asked, without understanding why he didn’t take the condom, why he didn’t undress.
“Shhh…relax.”
Jun settled on his pillow, comfortably and looked at Sho leaning on him to kiss his lower belly, stroking the tip of his member with his thumb, making him moan. Then he placed between his thighs, finally taking him in his mouth as he thrust a lubricated finger inside him. He felt his prostate growing at each suction, becoming bigger and bigger according his excitement.
The condom had a strange strawberry taste, the taste Nino had on the tip of his tongue after a blow job. He pushed the thoughts immediately of the young man image and ob-served Jun. His beautiful Jun, so handsome when he was lost in his pleasure.
Some pressure again on his soft spot and he freed in his condom, biting his tongue to keep his groans for himself. Then Jun stood up, threw his protection and went back to bed.
“Do you want?” hushed Jun pointing Sho’s lower belly, well hidden under the sheets.
“Don’t mind, I’m so tired…”
“Good night.”
“Good night, Jun.”
♥♣♥
“Tadaima.”
“Hi, Sho-kun, how was the festival?”
“Great, as usual.”
Sho sat at his desk, after greeting his colleagues and took off his PC.
« Oh, Senpai ! »
Nino was discussing with a journalist and he came to him immediately. He smiled and had his usual straight gaze, as if he had nothing to hide. Just dark circles around his eyes and bed hair, his night was surely pretty short.
“Hi Nino.”
“Not too tired? How was your evening?”
“Hm…” he nodded vaguely, uneasy to talk about his private life.
“Jun was glad to see you?”
“I…truly said, we had friends at home yesterday.”
Nino laughed and sat by his side.
“You surely were happy to see friends…After four days of festival.”
“Exactly. But they were old friends, not a business dinner, I couldn’t really complain. And you?”
“Hm…romantic evening, it was nice.”
“Oh…”
Sho gazed at his computer, seeing in his mind what his trainee’s night has been. Then he remembered that he made love to Jun.
“I was thinking about our article.”
“Yeah, me too. By the way, I took some notes. When is the deadline?
“By the end of the week, it will be on the cover for the next month’s publication.”
Nino handed him a USB key with the pictures he took on location, reminding him on purpose of their adventures. He would need time. Time to find back a normal relation-ship with Nino. Yet, Nino didn’t sound to be embarrassed at all. He behaved normally, joked, talked about concerts they watched.
However, none of them talked about Elvis Costello.
The public didn’t hear about this concert so they didn’t have to write it. By mutual tacit agreement, they wanted to keep this moment for them.
“Sho-kun, the boss asks for you.”
“Okay. Nino, work on it.”
“No problem. I take care of it.”
Sho walked through the editorial room and knocked at Ohno’s office door.
“Hello Boss.”
“Oh, hi Sho-kun, close the door behind you and sit down.”
Sho stared at him, astonished and did what he was told.
“What?”
“Nothing, I thought that this door was purely ornamental, I’ve never seen it closed.”
“I wanted to know how the festival was?”
“We thought of focusing on the main part of the file on the emergent groups of the festival and about what the organizers try to make pass with the public, the ecological cause for example.”
“Good idea. It will be done by the end of the week?”
“Yeah, sure, we’re both working on it.”
“Exactly, that’s what I wanted to talk about.”
“About the ‘both’?”
“About Ninomiya.”
Sho thought rapidly about what could interest his boss about the trainee. What can’t be told with an open door. Did he know…impossible.
“What do you want to know?”
“I wanted to offer him a position."
“A position?”
“Yeah as a journalist.”
“He’s only been here for 15 days!”
“What do you think about him?”
“I…I don’t know. He’s brilliant, good musician, clever and considerate…”
“All right, all right! I’m not asking you why you want to marry him, I’m talking about his talent as journalist.”
“I’ve never read anything written by him if it was your question. Why do you want to hire him?”
“Truth to be told, he’s puzzling.”
“Why?”
“Did you talk during the festival, about how he earned his livings before Beck?”
“He said he lived with his mother.”
“And university?”
“Journalism at Keio.”
“Not only. He was major of his prom in journalism AND music at Keio. Then he left the country to live in Los Angeles where he played the studio musician for major artists.”
“He earned his living as a guitarist?”
“Look at some big records from last years, you’ll find his name on most of them.”
“He has a double degree from Keio?!”
“He was considered as a genius by his professors.”
“Why does he play the trainee in a magazine section?”
“That’s why I want to hire him, I don’t want to lose such chance. But I don’t get some-thing. Did he tell you why he wanted to work for us?”
“Absolutely not…he came by himself?”
“Not really. I was drinking in a jazz club and he was alone on stage with a pianist. I wait-ed for him and we talked about journalism and about his degree. When he told me he just came back to Japan, searching for a job, I asked him to postulate. He clearly told me that he didn’t want to be a journalist, but he accepted politely. When he came to the appointment, he proposed to work for Beck. Even with such a miserable paid…of course, I didn’t refuse.”
“I don’t get it.”
“Me neither, but I don’t want to lose him. So?”
“So what?”
“Fuck, open your ears! Hire him, what do you think about it?”
“Of course.”
“Very well, that’s what I wanted to hear.”
“Okay.”
Sho stood up, the mind full of question. His boss called him once again as he was opening the door, noticing Nino who was looking at him.
“By the way, Sho-kun…”
“Yeah?”
“He’s single?”
“Nino?”
“Of course, Nino.”
“I think he has a boyfriend.”
“Does he live with him?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Ah, so it’s open.”
“It’s not open, I just told you he has a boyfriend.”
“And so, he’s free, right?”
“Sure. Excuse me, I’ve got an article to write.”
“Ja”
Sho didn’t sound so calm when he sat back.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“Did he scold you? You seem tense.”
“He wanted to know how was the festival, that’s all. We talked about the article.”
“Oh, cool. Here, look what I’ve done.”
Sho glanced at the perfectly established plan. He could hear his boss voice in his mind who told him that he was considered as a genius at the university. Why did he accept a job in such a publication?
“Senpai?”
“Yes?”
“I was wondering…I have a rock band ‘Serendipity’ and we’re playing next week in a bar at Shibuya. I was wondering if you’d accept to come.”
“At Shibuya?”
“Yeah, Shibuya, Thursday. If you’re free.”
“Nino…”
He wanted to go. Really, but why play with fire? Later, maybe, in a few weeks when he would know he could behave.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Ah? Okay, no problem, I just thought that a local concert could be~”
“It’s not the problem. You know why I~”
“I’ll come!”
Nino and Sho raised the head in the same time to see Ohno leaning on the wall above their cubicle.
“Do you want to come Ohno-san?”
“Yeah, sure. A journalist has to give himself to his job. Excuse Sho, he just lived four long days away from his beloved Jun, he can’t spend a night without him.”
“Yes. Yeah, I guess…” nodded Nino, hanging his head.
“Can we meet before, to have a drink?”
“If you wish.”
“Great. So it’s settled.”
“No problem.”
Ohno left, a huge smile on his face, leaving the two journalists quiet and embarrassed. Sho spoke first.
“You know, I think he wants something from you. Maybe you should tell him, if you don’t want to…I mean…”
“Be laid?”
“Yes.”
“Senpai. Look at me, please.”
Sho turned to face him and had to stare at him.
“Tell me not to go and I’ll obey. I won’t let him have the slightest hope.”
Sho felt a wave of pleasure overwhelming him. Nino was feeding his egotist jealousy which claimed him for himself. But what for? He had nothing, absolutely nothing to offer. Not even an affair.
“Why should I ask that of you?”
Seeing Nino’s hurt look he felt his heart breaking. But it was the only thing to do.
“You’re right. Why should you ask that of me? Are we working on the Gossip part so that we can be done with it?”
“Yeah, I can’t wait to go home.”
