CHAPTER 8

THE END OF THE BEGINNING

Without noticing, Nino’s steps guided him to Oguri’s mansion. Yet he knew exactly what he would find there: nothing.

Exiting Sho’s house in the middle of the night, he stood still in the street ignorant of what to do next. Going back home, meet Rosa…no, truly said, drinking until obliviousness seemed to be the best plan. Above all not thinking about the implications of the last events. For once in his life, postponing his reflections and his schemes to the next day. Not thinking that Sho had only need to speak one word to the Kashira, and his hot guts would decorate the back alley of the house of the clan.

And after all, why not? Death would be easier than this life. Sho spoke about hell…yes, he was already in hell and having a sample of paradise last night compounded his fall. He understood him…if his father was still alive, if he had a chance to find him, he would do everything to save him. At all costs. Perhaps he could even help Sho…to fix his mistakes…
The area was very quiet, no wonder, there were only rich mansions. This splendid house that he couldn’t see from the street was once owned by the Kashira’s mother, a girl from a good family who her parents sold for money. She died when her son entered university but at that time she hadn’t live with her husband anymore for years. Shun rested here since his come-back with a couple of servants…affirming his independence, even if he worked for the clan too.

When Nino decided to take his revenge, the target which was the Saiko-komon seemed too easy to destroy. Taking his son, his so promising and beloved son was far more interesting. He watched him growing up, graduating, going abroad and coming back, climbing the ladder of the clan to break him down in full flight. And what better way was there to take his revenge than discrediting him? But he was a secret man, difficult to fathom, almost impossible. Many plans failed, then he met Sakurai Mee-na. Instinctively, he knew that Oguri wouldn’t be able to resist. No one would. The chivalrous code, the damsel in distress…a perfect plan. What he didn’t take into consideration is the inhumanity of the situation, the sacrificed naïve young woman. And for her brother. But everything worked perfectly, even the unpredictable worked to his favor, so why did he feel so bad now? He had to be sure she was fine…and reassured Sho.

“What are you looking for?” a nonchalant voice asked from behind him as he was observing the house from the other side of the street. Nino didn’t need to turn around to know that Ohno was on his back.

“Nothing special…you know why I’m here, right?”

“You want to know if the girl is here.”

“Yes. She’s my shatei’s sister.”

“Forget her and tell him to forget her too.”

Nino put his hands on his hips and sighed loudly. “Ohno…we never really talk, well, you never talk to anyone…but can you watch over her?”

Ohno arched a skeptical eyebrow and smirked.

“She’s a good woman and her brother is someone…,” he bit his lips, looking for the accurate word. “Good too.” But what the fuck was this about? Nino wanted to slap himself and shut the fuck up. “Please,” he murmured in vain.

Ohno won’t ever raise his little finger against his master, even if he was strangling Mee-na under his gaze.

“Okay, don’t mind. Bye.”

Ohno watched him leaving the place, then he disappeared.

By the end of the afternoon, Nino decided to meet Sho, he had to talk to him. Everything was still possible…they could find a plan to kidnap Mee-na and run away…far from this rotten luck.
Nino spotted Sho who was about to enter the house so he walked faster. Then Sho grabbed a suitcase and another man entered Nino’s field of vision. Toma looked around and nailed Sho against the door to kiss him fiercely.

Nino stopped short, unable to take off his eyes from the seducing couple. The punishment had already began, it seemed. It was too late for him.

Days were passing by and nothing changed. Mee-na was living her new life as if her old life never existed. As if after the trauma she lived, a brand new young woman was born living far from the real world and her previous preoccupations.

She rested in this splendid mansion, without anything to do when she always fought to live without feeling any bitterness about it. Since she walked into Shun’s house, Mee-na didn’t wear the traditional Korean dresses she used to, because he offered her a lot of beautiful clothes, which she wore to please him. Without really understanding why, she had to wear English clothes, high heels and dresses showing her legs, silk stockings and the finest lingerie. Maria told her when she was dressing her hair that Oguri-san studied in England and had a soft spot for European culture.
If she felt really fragile in those close-fitting outfits, unbalanced with these shoes, Shun’s eyes told her she was seductive. And…she didn’t exit the house, behind those thick walls, she could be daring.

Oguri left early in the morning and came back late in the evening, sometimes not at all, letting her do what she wanted to do. Yet, when he was at home, he wanted her by his side and she complied gladly.

Often, when the evening came, he read books to her while she played her gayageum for him and if she didn’t miss her brother that much, she could have been sincerely happy. Quickly, she asked to meet Sho, but Shun refused, arguing it was too dangerous, evoking the spectrum of the Kansai squad. The next day, he offered her a kitten to keep her company.

The first time she ventured alone in the beautiful garden of the property, she was surprised to find on her way the loyal bodyguard of Shun, Ohno Satoshi who followed her zealously.

“Are you strolling with me?” she asked with a tentative smile.

Of course he didn’t answer.

“I’m gonna walk a bit in the garden. There is nothing to fear, no risk at all.”

But he stubbornly walked on her heel and bit by bit, he became a reassuring shadow for Mee-na, taking place in her daily scenery. Sometimes she didn’t meet him for days then he suddenly reappeared in a corridor of the house when she didn’t expect him anymore. His discreet and mysterious presence became a real amusement for Mee-na. Besides Isogai and Maria, he was the only person around her and she couldn’t believe she couldn’t connect with someone she met so frequently.

One day she was sat in the library, practicing her calligraphy, she tried once again to make him speak.

“Ohno Satoshi, how do you write it?”

“I don’t know,” he answered quietly.

Mee-na gazed up, startled. Not because he didn’t know how to write his name, but because he spoke.

“So…I can write it the way I want,” she smiled impishly. She began to draw kanji on her sheet and swallowed a cry of victory when he watched beyond her shoulder. “There it is! Do you want it?”

He shook his head.

“Do you want me to teach you?”

“I don’t think Oguri-san will agree.”

“We won’t tell him.”

“Reading isn’t necessary for me to do my job.”

“True…,” she pouted playfully. “But keep this sheet anyway, it’s a gift. You are allowed to receive a gift, right?”

He didn’t protest and left the room to watch her from the corridor, the sheet offered by Mee-na still in his hand.

Shun never brought back anyone at home and Mee-na ended thinking he had no friends. He never spoke about anything about him or about his work. Nothing about his life. Or the reason why he brought her back here. The young woman felt like the princess of the tale Shun told her once, condemned to live in a haunted palace with a cursed prince, turned into a beast.

One afternoon, she heard cries coming from the other side of the garden and she walked to the dojo, definitely curious. It was a sunny day and Isogai opened the panels of the training room wide. Oguri and Ohno were fighting with sticks, crying fiercely, their chests naked. She froze suddenly. On their backs, two twins tattoos, two blossomed cherry trees leaving no room for imagination about their profession. An inner voice snapped with perfidy that she already knew. She already saw those drawings when she followed her brother through the entire town to the house of the most powerful yakuza clan of Tokyo.

The pieces of the jigsaw gathered bit by bit in her mind. So he knew Sho because he was the head of the clan and Sho was a member of the criminal organization. He had a bodyguard because he was a yakuza rich enough to live in this kind of house and the woman he cared about could be abducted.

“He’s gorgeous, right?” a voice whispered at her ear. Mee-na jolted and almost fell, luckily caught by the man at her side. He was taller than her, even with those insanely high heels and was smiling goofily.

“Excuse me, I frightened you,” he apologized. “Do you remember me? We met the night at the…restaurant.”

“Ah…yes, you’re Masaki-san.”

He winked. “Exactly. Were you admiring Oguri and Ohno?”

“I was…no, of course not. I saw their tattoos by accident and~”

“I have the same tattoo,” Masaki bragged.

“So you’re part of it… too?”

“I’m part of the family, of course. Like your brother, we’re like big family,” he achieved as if it was the most natural thing to say. “Are you feeling bad?” Masaki asked seeing her appalling.

“I’ll…I’ll be inside, I think I have to sit down.”

“I’ll go with you, he will join us after his training,” Masaki took a glance at the two fighters.
“With Ohno it’s never too long.”

Masaki grabbed her elbow and brought her back inside into the living room. He seemed to know this house inside out. He called out for Maria and she brought the tea that Mee-na poured delicately. The man was staring at her shamelessly and she flushed.

“You are very beautiful with these clothes,” he pointed a finger at her dress and when she gazed down, she was hit by the inappropriateness of the situation, praying silently for Oguri to join them quickly.

“Shun-kun is crazy about you, you know it, right?”

“I don’t know, we don’t have this kind of relationship.”

“True? So what are you doing together in this beautiful big house, just the two of you?”

“We’re spending time together, reading, practicing ikebana…he isn’t that much here, he works a lot.”

Masaki elbowed onto the table and leaned toward her. “How is he in bed?” he murmured.

Mee-na’s mind slowly understood the question and turned beet red.

“Can’t you see she’s uncomfortable?” Shun’s low voice said as he entered the room. “Don’t bother Mee-na with silly questions! If you weren’t a childhood friend, I’d show you out, you know?”

“Sure but you’re too lenient with me!” Masaki laughed out loud.

Shun laughed at his turn and Mee-na couldn’t but smile, seeing him so joyful. When he was with her, he was serious, almost gloomy and with time passing by, it worsened. Perhaps he was tired of her, perhaps he regretted his decision to protect her?

When they were alone in the library this evening, after Masaki’s departure, an awkward silent fell between them. Mee-na took her gayageum to hide her embarrassment but her mind was too agitated to focus onto her piece and she played very poorly. Shun closed his book and zeroed in on her.

“Something bothers you, Mee-na?”

“I…no, everything is fine.”

“Come here,” he reached out and she placed her cushion at his feet. “Tell me now.”

She blushed, the words stuck in her throat. Mee-na took a deep breath and pulled herself together. “I’m living here for weeks and…I was wondering…what do we do now?”

“What do you mean?” he stared at her interrogatively and her throat went dry. She wished he told her he loved her, he wanted to marry her, that he wouldn’t get tired of her…but instead she kept on.

“Masaki-san seems to think that we…well, that we are a couple and~”

“You couldn’t answer, right?”

She nodded.

“What do you think we are?”

“I don’t know,” she said sheepishly. “You are good to me and I don’t want to jeopardize your future.”

“Jeopardize my future? How?”

“You probably have to marry someone…”

“Oh,” Shun leaned back on his armchair.

“During the dinner…the nyotaimori, I heard a man talking about an alliance, a wedding. If you’re sheltering a woman, it could be inappropriate even if this woman is only…a friend.”

“I see.”

Mee-na didn’t see at all. She didn’t get a clue about this man. Despite those last weeks he was an enigma and it drove her crazy. He was a yakuza, true, but she could love him enough to forget this, what was the problem?

“It’s…more complicated than it seems, Mee-na,” he said gazing down.

“Why?”

“I can’t offer you what you want. Do you get it?”

Mee-na shook her head.

“I can’t marry you. And you can’t be my lover.”

“Why not?” she whispered, trying but failing to keep her voice even.

“I’m not like every man. I’m afraid about what I could do to you. I’m not a sweet man, Mee-na. When you look at me, like you’re doing now, I want you so badly. But I can’t, I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You’re not gonna hurt me,” she said firmly.

“I like that, Mee-na. That’s what pleases me, hurting women and I never wanted anyone the way I want you. You’re so fragile and so sweet, it’s so attracting for me but…I could kill you.”

“But you won’t,” she said straightening to come closer.

“Don’t tantalize me, please, you don’t know what you’re doing.”

He was sitting in his armchair, his forearms resting on his splayed thighs, his cheeks lightly red, his eyes screaming to approach when his words asked her to not. He was damn sexy and she didn’t resist. Mee-na put her hands on Shun’s knees and her lips on his but he didn’t answer.

“I’m not fragile,” she murmured. “Please.”

Shun kept his mouth shut, gazing at her straightforwardly, deeply, looking for sincerity in her eyes. “Undress,” he commanded, sitting comfortably into the armchair, his face suddenly dead serious.

He was testing her. It was crystal-clear, he wanted to see if she was determined enough to brave her timidity and her fear. She stood up courageously and opened each button of her dress, one by one, looking at it as it pooled at her feet. Then she rolled down her stockings one after the other, the silk caressing her thin ankles pleasantly. Shun didn’t take his eyes off of her, his eyebrows knitted, his jaws so tensed that they seemed ready to break.

When she tossed her panties onto the floor, she boldly walked to him and untied his tie, then she put it in his hand and stared at him.

“I’m not fragile and I know you could kill me. But I know too, that you won’t, I trust you. I won’t stop you, do what you want with me.”

Shun watched the tie in his hand and the joined wrists of Mee-na. He looked around, over thinking, trying to keep his head clear by fighting what his instinct was telling him. Then he gave up and slowly linked Mee-na’s wrists together with the refined silk. She let him do, then laid down on the fluffy carpet, her arms stretched above her head. Shun contemplated her, then he rose to put a hesitant hand on her. He roamed his fingers all along her naked body and she trembled under the caress. Shun stroked her harder and she moaned louder. When he leaned onto her mouth, while his nails were leaving red trails on her breasts, he swallowed her cry with a lick of his tongue. He caressed her for a long time, pushing her to the edge, making her wait, refusing her what she craved for. Something else should happen, she thought without pinpointing what. She begged him in silent and he knelt down by her side, undressing himself. She watched him, admiring his sculpted body and the tattoos all over his muscles dancing at the light of the fireplace.

“Open your thighs, Mee-na.”

She barely recognized his voice, she simply obeyed and he knelt between her splayed legs, laying on her heavily. His hand nailed Mee-na’s arms onto the floor, pressing more onto her slim body. Seeing his eyes changing suddenly as he was about to penetrate her, she began to panic. But it was too late to step back. A terrible pain tore off her lower belly as he thrust hard into her. Moving back fast, to penetrate her again, harder, stronger, violently. Her heart beat faster and she almost fainted because of the unbearable ache. She closed her eye and turned her head, offering him her neck unconsciously and he bit her hard before licking the bloody mark he left on her pristine skin.

“Look at me!” he eructed as he entered her once again. “I want to see you cry when I take you.”

Mee-na kept her eyes resolutely closed, then she felt his powerful hand on her throat, obstructing her already shallow breathing.

“I told you to look at me!” he yelled.

Mee-na realized what she had done. She opened Pandora’s Box and God knew what would come out. The man inside her was totally crazy, out of his mind and she was the one who allowed him to exist. Tears dripped on her cheeks out of pain and fear while she opened her eyes and crossed his gaze. It was enough to make him orgasm, finally ending her torture with a last move of his hips. He smiled gently, kissed her, wiping her tears with his lips.

“I love you so much my angel.” He breathe all against her wet skin and she shivered with disgust.

Mee-na felt new tears wetting her cheeks and she folded her arms on her chest, her aching body craving for loneliness and rest. But those tears woke up her torturer’s desire who whispered as he withdrew.

“Turn around now, the initiation isn’t over yet.”
